In 1994 work continued on the "Paleogeographic Atlas of Northern Eurasia" - a Project sponsored by, Exxon, Shell and Unocal Companies and by the Russian State Committee on Geology. Main effort was directed to compilation of a series of data-base maps (from the Late Devonian to Pliocene), concentrating data on geodynamics, lithology, facies, thickness of sediments paleoenvironment and structures for certain intervals of the geologic time-scale. More than 100 experts in stratigraphy, tectonics, regional geology, oil and gas resources participated in collecting of primary information, which is processed and finally presented in Arc/Info format. This format permits operations with selected specific data sets, correction and introduction of new data, reproduction of the whole r part of a map at any scale and projection.

Simultaneously, paleogeographic maps are being compiled, using new plate-tectonic reconstructions as a base.

The completed maps demonstrate in detail the history of sedimentary basins of Eurasia, their connections with the Polar, Pacific and Tethys Oceans, the transgressive-regressive cycles of sedimentation, and paleoenvironmental conditions of the hydrocarbon generation. At. thee same time much attention is paid to reconstruction of fold belts originated in a course of the closure of the Uralian, Mongol-Okhotsk, Anuy and Tethys Oceans.
