Changing the economic rules for capture, management, and distribution of digital well log data; leveraging the concept of a privately owned utility with its customers as its partners and regulators; pooling of vendor and industry databases; competitive solutions to industry needs; ensuring that data is never lost; synergistic approach to making digital well log data more available, more accessible, and more affordable; this paper is an overview of how this new approach has been successfully implemented in Canada and has helped rebuild our industry through the cooperative collection, management, and distribution of public domain digital well log data.
