ABSTRACT: 3-D Multicomponent Seismic Reservoir Characterization of South Casper Creek Field, Natrona County, Wyoming
South Casper Creek field provides a unique opportunity tostudy a reservoir in an established oil field. Geological and geophysical data collected by the Colorado School of Mines Reservoir Characterization Project include well logs, core analyses, multicomponent vertical seismic profiles, and 3-D multicomponent surface seismic data. Interpretation of these have shown faults and open fracture sets control fluid movement in the reservoir as confirmed from reservoir engineering data.
Complex seismic shear wave anisotropy has created difficulties in the processing and interpretation of the multicomponent surface seismic data. The continuing objective of the project is to develop 3-D multicomponent seismic data acquisition, processing, and interpretation technologies to better characterize reservoir heterogeneity.
