ABSTRACT: Economic Geology of the Cooper Hill Mining District, Carbon County, Wyoming

HAUSEL, W. DAN, Wyoming Geological Survey, Laramie, WY

The Cooper Hill mining district, located along the northeastern flank of the Medicine Bow Mountains in southeastern Wyoming, consists of an allochthonous block of amphibolite-grade metasedimentary and metavolcanic rock of Proterozoic age. Metasedimentary rocks include metalimestone, mica schist, quartzite, and metaconglomerate, all of which are intruded by mafic sills and dikes with chemical compositions equivalent to basaltic komatite. These rocks have been affected by at least three, and possibly four, episodes of deformation.

Mineral deposits include skarns, veins, and placers. Past production included some gold, silver, lead, and copper.
