Reservoirs Handbook

SNEIDER, ROBERT M., Robert M. Sneider Exploration, Inc., Houston, TX, and DONALD G. HARRIS, Richardson, Sangree & Sneider, Houston, TX

The Reservoirs Handbook is part of the AAPG's Treatise of Petroleum Geology. The purpose of the book is to provide a quick, succinct, state-of-the art discussion of the concepts, technology, and methodology pertinent to the description and analysis of petroleum reservoirs and their contained fluids and fluid-flow barriers. This handbook contains eight chapters.

Chapter I focuses on the information required to develop a field and discusses the expanded role of the geologist in field appraisal, development, reviews, reserve estimates, and supplemental recovery projects. Chapter II covers concepts and techniques useful to characterize the reservoir elements (geometry, pore space, and fluids) and the reservoir-producing mechanisms. Chapter III highlights concepts for determining reservoir geometry including the importance of porosity-modifying processes. Also included are discussions of the fluid-distribution in homogeneous and stratified reservoirs and examples of the 3-D pore-space geometries in typical reservoirs. Chapter IV focuses on geological-geophysical and engineering techniques for evaluating the geometry of reservoirs and aquifers. Ch pter V discusses the concepts to quantify pore-space properties of reservoirs. Chapter VI covers the tools and techniques to quantify pore-space properties in cores, samples, logs, and from well tests. Chapter VII is on Integration of Geological Geophysical Models into Field Studies. Included is reservoir field review methodology, input for reservoir simulation studies, and reservoir management practices. The final chapter (VIII) includes references and reservoir fluid properties.

The Reservoirs Handbook is practical and contains comprehensive information that relates directly to the petroleum geologist's day-to-day work.
