Innovative Uses of Geophysical Data

L. C. Lawyer

We are all familiar with how seismic data is typically used to map structure and to look for anomalies related to changes in rock properties. However, with innovation, geophysical data can be used for more unusual purposes. Examples in the literature range from monitoring EOR projects to investigating hidden compartments in pyramids.

Two examples will be shown where people have found solutions to problems using innovative approaches. The first of these involves the monitoring of an expanding gas anomaly inadvertently brought about during drilling. The second deals with temperature gradients derived from seismic data.
