Abstract: Uranium Search in Lake Athabaska Region by Image Processing of LANDSAT Data

Carl L. Kober

Remote sensed data of the Lake Athabaska region were processed on the Cyber-Ikon Image Analyzer of Control Data Corp.

The processing starts with warping available geographic, aeromagnetic, gravity, seismic, and geologic data to LANDSAT CCT's. Grayshade histograms are taken in all LANDSAT bands and a band 5/7 combination is subject to a grayshade redistribution procedure, corresponding to a homomorphic deconvolution. The resulting image has a strong correlation to the warped aeromagnetic and gravity data, leading to a different genetic hypothesis of local uranium deposits in form of an aulacogen model. Large-scale color-level sliced images of known and newly found deposits were verified later by field inspection.
