Seismic AVO Modeling and Amplitude Calibration to Rock Property for Pore Fluid Prediction

Shell has designed a trends and rock property framework and database with qualitative and quantitative predictive capabilities for the wider Niger Delta offshore. In green field exploration the absence of well data, and hence the lack of proper calibration makes it difficult to accomplish meaningful AVO modeling for e.g. oil and gas discrimination.

With the aid of our proprietary database, it is possible to customize this to local rock property conditions by plugging-in all relevant environmental and geophysical attributes from the regional framework. This local rock property database provides the means to generate AVO & AoverB models, which now can be related and compared to the real seismic data.

In this workflow, the Bayesian approach is a key component in generating fluid distribution maps for the relevant target horizons.
