The Progress and Pontential of the Application of Laser Technology in Mud Logging

Abstract

Laser technology has been introduced in mud logging in order to achieve the rapid and automatic identification of lithology and hydrocarbon types and the rapid analysis and imaging of pores of core samples. The key factors were pinpointed to identify lithology, hydrocarbon detection and pore imaging by laser application. Adaptive technology research(laser and emission wavelength selection, Raman effect amplification, heavy component Raman spectroscopy separation, etc. ) was used to develop technologies for laser induced breakdown lithology spectroscopy identification, laser scanning confocal reservoir performance evaluation, and Raman laser oil and gas evaluation. The application results show that average lithology coincidence rate reaches 88. 0%, maximum error of porosity analysis is less than 7. 9%, and detection resolution of gas components is within 0. 0001% by using laser technology, which has the advantages of fast analysis, accurate data and easy operation compared with other mug logging technologies. The adaptive research of laser technology enhances the ability of mud logging in rapid identification of lithology and hydrocarbon, pore analysis, etc., and provides a means for intelligent logging.
