Evaluation of US Shale Oil Productivity Based on Geological and Economic Perspectives

Abstract

As an important unconventional energy, shale oil has become new hot spots of unconventional oil and gas exploration in the world. It is of vital importance to study the production capacity of shale oil in the United States. This paper analyzes the influence from the macroscopic and microscopic shale oil single well production capacity of main controlling factors in the Permian basin, barnett and eagle ford oilfield, based on the geologic and economic factors. The study found that shale oil well productivity is determined by reservoir porosity, permeability and effective thickness as well as human factors such as fracturing control, also influenced by international oil prices, investment strength, energy policy changes, the oilfield life cycle and other economic factors. The increasing international oil price, better investment strength and favorable energy policy can increase oil production, and the short life cycle characteristics of shale oil projects can lead to rapid adjustment of production when International oil price fluctuation.
