Abstract

This presentation explores the link between basin-wide and high resolution sequence stratigraphy and optimization of hydraulic fracture designs in the Midland Basin's most prolific tight rock play. Special emphasis is placed on characterizing rock property trends within a sequence stratigraphic framework. The discussion makes frequent reference to linking lithofacies to sonic-derived petrophysical rock properties and mineralogy, including clay species. The relationship between natural fractures, brittleness, fracture initiation pressure, and secondary porosity development with stratigraphic position is also addressed.
