Abstract

The North American oil and gas boom of the past decade has been enabled by the creative deployment of evolving technology in old and new fields across the continent. Regulations addressing unconventional oil and gas development are progressing through a process of continuous improvement with considerable variety across jurisdictions. This presentation will provide a qualitative and quantitative update on evolving U.S. state and Canadian provincial regulation of upstream oil and gas development from an environmental perspective, with a focus on major trends in rules protecting groundwater and surface water.
