Abstract

The Eastern Saudi Arabia petroleum basin is characterized by multiple intra-basin highs that dissect the basin into mini-basins. The influence of superimposed tectonic phases on this mosaic of multi-highs and mini-basins created different hydrocarbon migration possibilities. Wide areas in Central Saudi Arabia that exist in “conventional” hydrocarbon migration shadows could prove to have additional exploration potential if charged through a regional u-turn path beneath angular Previous HitunconformitiesTop. The objective of this paper is to explain the concept of U-turn hydrocarbon migration and to illustrate potential areas for applying this concept in the Eastern Saudi Arabia basin. Seismic, potential fields, well data and integrated 3D basin models were used to conduct this study.
