Abstract

Unconventional resources such as shale gas are attracting more attention from geoscientists due to their ever-increasing importance in exploration and production. Locating the sweet spots and quantifying gas plays are two of the significant challenges yet to be addressed. Understanding and quantifying the effect of organic matter on the rock’s elastic properties will play a crucial role in predicting sweet spots from well data and surface seismic.
