Abstract

Knowledge of the areal and vertical viscosity variations in heavy oil within a reservoir is important in numerous aspects of our business ranging from designing well completions and optimizing field development to reservoir modeling and reserve estimations. This paper provides petrophysical guidelines for heavy oil identification. The petrophysical investigation of the heavy oil begins with core description and geochemical data analysis. Then, these results are integrated with electrical logs, pressure and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) data to fully characterize and assess the heavy oil within the reservoirs.
