Abstract

In South Oman remnant Previous HitmultiplesNext Hit hinder a reliable interpretation of the target reflectors. Conventional Previous HitmultiplesNext Hit removal techniques such as Radon, FK, SRME and inter-bed de-multiple have not been successful in delivering sufficiently multiple-free data allowing proper interpretation. We present a new technique that helps to attenuate Previous HitmultiplesNext Hit that exhibit a different dip from primaries. The main prerequisite for this technique to work effectively is to have a well-understood and sufficiently large dip discrimination between primaries and Previous HitmultiplesNext Hit. In South Oman data, this scenario is very common as flat strong carbonate overburden reflectors generate a train of high Previous HitamplitudeTop reverberations masking weak undulating primaries underneath. Dip-filtering is applied within the time gate where this prerequisite is valid.
