University of Louisiana at Lafayette

The Bayou Grosse Tete Field has shown to be a prolific oil and gas field in south central Louisiana. The Field’s Sparta and Wilcox sections have produced an estimated amount of 1.1 million barrels of oil and 1.88 billion cubic feet of gas from 3 particular units, Sparta “A”, Wilcox 1, and Wilcox 4, possesses great reservoir characteristics. The Bayou Grosse Tete field contains a typical “rollover” geometry that is common in southern Louisiana.

The structural and stratigraphic implications present in the field are explored to understand the potential for future oil and gas exploration. The multiple exhibits provided show the Bayou Grosse Tete Field’s structural patterns and provides areas of interest for further investigation.
