Onshore to Offshore Regional-scale Evolution in the Area of the Eastern Seas, Russian Arctic

Steve Matthews

The Russian Arctic offshore is a vast area, and is largely unexplored with only a small number of wells in the Barents and South Kara Seas. There are no exploration wells in the North Kara, Laptev, East Siberian or Chukchi Seas. The limited calibration of basin fill, particularly in the Eastern Seas, requires integration of onshore geological understanding with offshore data such as regional-scale 2D seismic lines. Constraints from the various islands within the Laptev, East Siberian and Chukchi Seas are also critically important to building a realistic model range for basin development and deformation. This presentation provides a synthesis of current understanding of basin-scale evolution based on original regional cross-sections and maps, updated from our previous presentation at 3P Moscow in 2009.
