In East Texas, Garrison Field NE of Nacogdoches, the Lower Cretaceous (Neocomian) Travis Peak formation is a gas-bearing Previous HitsandstoneNext Hit (quartzarenite, sublitharenite) unit of low Previous HitpermeabilityNext Hit, low porosity, and low mud rock content. Extensive, integrated examinations of drill Previous HitcuttingsNext Hit by microscopy (PLM), scanning electron microscopy with EDS, and X-ray diffraction (XRPD) demonstrate the abundance and usefulness of observations and data derived characterizing the lithologic units and their diagenetic developments. Samples examined enable (1) characterization on lithology, texture, and sedimentary fabric, (2) determination of mineralogy, including clay species, (3) analysis of porosity distribution and associated reservoir quality, (4) determination of possible mineralogical influences on Previous HitsandstoneNext Hit reservoir stimulation, and (5) significance of diagenetic process sequence. Their understanding, in combination with petrophysical analyses of well logs of seven wells, well completion data and production analyses, are the basis of the evaluation of the effectiveness of hydraulic fracture treatment. The potential for future gas production Previous HitfromNext Hit Previous HitsandstoneNext Hit units in the Garrison Field, East Texas Basin, is evaluated in this integrated study based on recent hydraulic fracture treatment results and the set of new, integrated characteristics of the reservoir rocks. A thorough understanding of the formation's geology, production, and detailed studies of reservoir engineering properties such as Previous HitpermeabilityTop, porosity, and water saturation are also required and part of the characterization integration.
