Simulation of Hydrofracking and Induced Seismicity

We focus on the effect of micro-pores and micro-fractures and their interactions on the overall Previous HiteffectiveNext Hit mechanical, thermal and hydrological – flow and transport – properties of fractured porous rock under several conditions of uncertainties. First, the Previous HiteffectiveNext Hit thermal, elastic and hydrological properties of rocks with only cracks are addressed. Second, the Previous HiteffectiveTop thermal, elastic and hydrological properties of rocks with only macro- and micro- porous are then addressed and the impact of one on the other is investigated. Finally, in order to depict a more realistic tight rock reservoir, a combined texture of cracks, micro and macro pore is simulated under different conditions of uncertainties. The results are further abstracted to infer the overall thermo-hydro-mechanical proper­ties of the rock. Uncertainty associated with the physical and chemical aggregates of tight shale rock and their parameterization is investigated using brute-force Monte-Carlo method.
