Advances of Seismic Exploration Technology in the Study of Petroleum Geology — The Presentation and Application of Petroleum Seismogeology

Abstract: At present, in view of the research thinking and working method with the integrated seismic data processing and interpretation,integrated seismic and geological research, and integrated oil & gas exploration and development are popularized by Petroleum Exploration Department, this paper analyzed the advances of seismic exploration technology and its latest application results in the study of Petroleum Geology. With the rapid development of current seismic exploration technology, the application of seismic data in all branch disciplines of Petroleum Geology gradually turns from petroleum exploration field to petroleum development field, and from early simple structural or stratigraphic interpretation to seismic comprehensive interpretation of sedimentary, lithology, oil and gas detection, or even accumulation process, etc. Gradually the research of seismic data converted from the qualitative assessment to a quantitative one. So Petroleum Seismogeology was originated as a new frontier and inter-discipline subject of comprehensiveness and systematicness.

In the end, as the paper points out, because the exploration targets become more and more subtle and complicated, it is the inevitable trend that advanced geophysical techniques combine with theory of petroleum geology in the fine study of deposition, reservoirs, and oil & gas distribution law, in order to implement exploration target. So Petroleum Seismogeology will play a key role in major breakthrough of oil & gas exploration in the future, eventually promote the development of petroleum industry.
