Most of the monitoring of the Exploration IT Technologies in the industry are targeting physical components such as computer servers and storage devices. Another more efficient approach of monitoring is to identify the critical business services and tie them to their respective physical systems and infrastructure resources. For instance, multiple geophysical applications are hosted on a physical computer system and share the same database. Exploration analysts utilize one of these applications to interpret and analyze seismic data. It is possible that the analyst is not able to read data because of a fault in the database. With the traditional monitoring approach, different systems support personnel such as network support, servers support as well as application analysts will be dispatched to troubleshoot the problem before being able to identify the root cause (i.e. database). The aim of this paper is to present an end-to-end monitoring solution based on services. The proposed solution provides less resolution time, greater efficiency in problem management, and root cause analysis. Also, it sets the proper infrastructure for effective change management in conformity with ITIL standards. In addition, one of the key advantages of the proposed approach is that it is completely agent-less and hence, it does not introduce any burden on the monitored systems and relieves systems administrators from managing a huge number of scattered monitoring agents.
