A review of the history of hydraulic fracturing shows that we have come full circle in our industry on the type of fluids utilized. Several lessons have been learned in the past eight years with regards to the design and implementation of waterfracs as well as how they differ and are similar when applied to conventional and unconventional reservoirs. I will discuss design aspects, utilization of 3D models and all of the rationale for success versus more conventional high viscosity fluids. The emphasis of this presentation is upon learning from application rather than theoretical aspects. Some time will be spent going over various designs both for conventional and unconventional reservoirs. An interesting aspect at the close will be a discussion of how this drastic move to waterfracs has affected the service pumping industry and its future.
