The Annot Sandstone is a well-known analog for sand-rich deep water reservoirs. They were deposited in a deltaic setting over period of 10My from the Bartonian to Rupelian, in the active alpine wedge top foreland basin. Today the Annot Sandstone is superbly exposed in the subalpine mountain chains of SE France.

Detailed structural field data (dip, onlap) are used to construct a high resolution 3D geometrical model of 7 stratigraphic markers within the turbidites of the Annot syncline (maximum thickness 500m). Using this well-constrained structural framework, a 3D facies model based on an interpolation of well-documented outcropping facies (2D) is built to show the present distribution of the facies throughout the growth structure. Control of active folding on turbidite deposition can be further studied by 3D sequential restoration.

For the first time, the migration of the fold axis during deposition of turbidite facies can be demonstrated in the Annot syncline. A first approximation of the paleobathymetry for each marker is obtained, thus illustrating the effect of slope on turbidite facies distribution.
