Mapping Geologists Not Just Geology and Why That Is Important

Charles Fried and Charles C. Fried
Exploration, BP, Houston, TX

Gulf Coast hurricanes in 2005 dramatically illustrated the need to map the employee base in the path of the storms. A large percentage of the AAPG lives in the storm prone Gulf of Mexico. The skills and tools used for mapping geology can also be used to map geologists. This is useful to insure business continuity during storm events. As with any mapping exercise, some of the same challenges (data quality, for example) are issues. Techniques applied and lessons learned will be documented in this poster. These have potential application in areas beyond the Gulf of Mexico, as incidents can occur in other geographic regions inhabited by the petroleum company workforce.
