2006-2009; A Review of Global Elephant Hunting

Cross, Ian1 (1) IHS Energy, Houston, TX

This talk/poster will review what are considered some of the more significant structures which have been drilled globally in 2006, and also look forward to the period 2007 to 2009.

The discussion/poster will focus on prospects which are considered to be over 250 MMboe in size. At the start of 2006 around 160 where identified in this range located in 48 countries and involving 63 operators that could be drilled during the year. To date at the half way point, IHS Energy records suggest that some 10 wells may have been successful in finding fields of this size. 2006, similar to 2005, seems to have been a much healthier year than 2004 with a shift away from deepwater and West Africa.

The aim of this talk/poster will be the give an understanding of who are the main players, strategy, where the prospects are located, opportunities to participate, play and hydrocarbon types, plus implications of the outcome of some of the key wells. The discussion/poster will start with a historic look at trends which will help build a picture for the future.
