Paleodrainage Evolution and Sedimentation Sources on the Amazon Fan Using Regional Cyclostratigraphy

Paleogeographical maps of the Amazon fan were constructed for three times: lower Tertiary before extensive volcanism, on the middle Miocene and upper Pliocene, based on global and regional tectonic framework and climatic conditions for every stage. Sedimentary records and tectonic framework indicators were used to constrain paleodrainage maps, the rate of sediment flux and variation of the basin area. The dynamic if sediment yield to Amazon Basin is complex, characterized by a Previous HitnonlinearTop interaction of processes include: basement composition, tectonic framework, climatic oscillation, geomorphologic features and the physical and chemical processes. Basement rocks types and geological evolution are described by Chemale Jr. et al., (2002). The tectonic framework of the Amazon Basin (Hasui et al., 1984) is characterized by the end-member conditions that predominate at different stages of rift evolution: 1 – Stage I paleodrainage map, showing vector drainage during lover Miocene, high volcanic and rift shoulders promoted basal fan sediment influx than accommodation space, corresponding to the end member 1; corresponding to the maximum climatic. 2 – Stage II paleodrainage map, represent vector drainage conditions that occurred during the intermediate stages of rifting from the Middle Miocene with less sedimentation and corresponding to minimum climatic. 3 – The Stage III paleodrainage map, represent the vector drainage on the late stage of rift evolution and the middle construction of the Amazon Fans Basin from the Miocene to the Pliocene, comprising large climatic changes and sea level oscillation, representing the second climatic maximum and established climatic and weather conditions same to actually.
