ABSTRACT: Geometric Analysis of the Perdido Fold Belt, Northwestern Gulf of Mexico

The Perdido fold belt is an important exploration trend, containing some of the largest known prospective undrilled structural closures within the Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States. The structural geology the fold belt has been studied in detail from 2-D seismic surveys (Blickwede and Queffelec 1988, Mount et al. 1990, Fuqua 1990, Trudgill et al. 1999). We propose that the Perdido fold belt is a fold dominated contractional belt composed of open detachment folds and kink-folds, based on fold geometries interpreted from 3-D seismic.
