ABSTRACT: The Geometry and Kinematics of Cangdong Fault Inferred from the Distribution and Migration of Sediment and Depocenters of Paleogene in Huanghua Basin, North China

The main factor controlling the sedimentary in the rift basin is master extensioal fault so that the migration of the sediment and depocenters contains the information of the master fault. This paper figures out the geometry and kinematics of the master fault, Cangdong fault, in Huanghua basin from the distributing of sediment and depocenters of Paleogene in the basin. Huanghua basin contains more than 10 Paleogene sags. Cangdong fault lay on the west boundary of the basin strikes in north-northeast and is a major boundary fault in Huanghua basin. There are many synthetic and/or antithetic secondary basement faults and cover faults that are developed on the hanging-wall of Cangdong fault. The Paleogene sags are controlled directly by Cangdong fault or by the secondary basement faults. Most of the depocenters in Huanghua basin extends in north-northeast and migrates west-northwestwards even if some sags are evidently developed on the hanging-wall of the antithetic secondary basement faults or the faults str
