ABSTRACT: Computer Geology and the Independent Geologist, 2001

Computers have occupied space on geologist's desks for more than 20 years. Have they changed the way we work? Certainly. Is our productivity increased? Maybe. Mapping, well log analysis, database management and other programs provide high quality, editable output, but they demand a high degree of user interaction/attention to insure that high graphic quality translates to high professional quality. Garbage in garbage out is as true today as it was years ago.

Today's software, once learned, allows fully professional presentations. Especially for the independent geologist, mastery of readily available geologic as well as graphic software tools can help present an idea and sell a project.
