ABSTRACT: Global Warming and the Oil Industry - a Viable Path Forward?

Those who would like to see the demise of the hydrocarbon industry have a very effective weapon in the form of the concern over global warming. Issues over scientific validity notwithstanding, this concern has spawned a broad range of international and governmental processes that are affecting our business now and will likely grow in impact over time.

Is there a viable solution for our business to this looming issue? Is there a 'Responsible Growth' path - one that would enable our businesses to continue to deliver the economic and social progress associated with energy growth while respecting the environmental concerns over greenhouse gas emissions? What are the roles of the international process, governments, and industry in finding and implementing this solution?
