ABSTRACT: Managing Deep Water Operations in a Depressed Economy (A New Business Synergy)

Managing deep-water operations is quite challenging especially in a depressed economy as obtained in West Africa. From the unrelenting pace of large discoveries in this region, every operator agrees that our deep-water blocks are potential excellent producers; however, achieving maximum economic benefits from them requires a thorough understanding of operational uncertainties peculiar to this region.

Using Nigeria as our case study, we have carefully outlined the numerous challenges of managing deep water operations in this region; how a synergistic business arrangement between the various stakeholders can help overcome these challenges as well as dramatically improving the economic viability of our deep water fields hereby ensuring that more opportunities are identified, communicated and executed in our deeper waters in West Africa.

Getting out from under our self imposed limitations and restrictions, requires this kind of relationships based on team work, risk sharing, goal alignment as well as joint decision making.
