Improved Analytical Tools for Evaluating Petroleum Impacted Sites

O'REILLY, KIRK, Chevron Research & Technology, Richmond, CA

Recent advances in the analytical methods available to evaluate petroleum in environmental samples can provide valuable information for remediation project managers. These methods can be used to determine responsibility, assess risks, meet regulatory requirements, and select the appropriate corrective action. The goals of this presentation are to introduce some of these methods, and to describe how they can be applied to reduce project costs. Tools for rapid data evaluation will also be presented. Case studies that resulted in over $1,000,000 in savings will be discussed.
