Abstract: Changing Role of Universities in Education and Research

Changes taking place in the petroleum industry are also having a profound effect on how a research university like Stanford serves the industry. There are changes taking place in everything we do: How we get funded, who takes our courses, who uses our research and how our graduates are hired and by whom? I will comment on this changing environment and its possible impact on the independent operator.
