The petroleum geologist and the environmental geologist are asked to answer seemingly similar questions: Where is the oil to be found? How much is there, and how much can be recovered? However, the geologic environments, evaluation approaches, technical challenges and measures of success are vastly different. This presentation compares the technical, financial, legal and philosophical challenges that the petroleum geologist and environmental geologist must face to answer these questions.
