Abstract: Interpretation of Recently Released Seismic Data: Deformation Styles of Offshore San Diego

MAJORS, C. P., C. Wall, C. Von STEIN, A. RIGOR, and M. BINKIN, Department of Geological Sciences, San Diego State University, San Diego, CA

Recently released seismic data for offshore San Diego County indicate evidence for at least two phases of deformation. An older episode of basin-forming deformation may be related to normal faulting as a result of Mid-Tertiary extension. Subsequent strikeslip faulting has dissected the extensional geometry in offset basins. Recognition of these relationships is critical for any interpretation concerning the tectonic development of the California Continental Borderlands.
