The role of faults on fluid Previous HitmigrationNext Hit has been a matter of controversy during past years. The objective of this study is to establish relationships between local stress field and potential pathways for secondary Previous HitmigrationNext Hit using a stress analysis approach along restored geological sections through time.

The use of restoration technique and of stress field analysis allowed the characterization of different zones of compression and decompression or even tension along geological sections. The relationship between these zones which bear different state of stress and the spatial distribution of the evolving faults, through time, provided criteria to determine the faults behavior acting as seal or conduits. This way, the connections between blocks sharing a specific fault plane can be traced through time.

The use of the fault behavior history as an input to Previous Hit2-DNext Hit fluid-flow simulations, in some specific studies, has shown the importance of this integrated technique on the reconstruction of petroleum Previous HitmigrationTop history and prediction on hydrocarbon accumulations.
