Abstract: Using 3D Geostatistics and Seismic Inversion To Estimate Porosity

PENDREL, JOHN V., Jason Geosystems; PAUL VAN RIEL, Jason Geosystems B.V.

SUMMARY

We show how 3D seismic inversion and 3D geostatistical analysis can be used to estimate porosity for Devonian reef data. The simulations, computed as equi-probable 3D porosity volumes, are constrained to be in agreement with both log and seismic data and the geologic model for the reservoir. Average porosities within layers are mapped to show the lateral extent of the reservoir. This paper updates ongoing work to improve porosity estimates using geostatistical techniques.
