Abstract: NMR Logging Applications in Carbonate Exploration Plays and Pilot Development and Horizontal Wells

NURMI, ROY, Houston; STAN DENOO, Denver, and ROBERT DENNIS, Muscat, Schlumberger

Summary

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology provides new insight into the pore size and distribution within reservoir and nonreservoir rocks. The importance of NMR well logging in both carbonate exploration and development has been demonstrated during field testing and confirmed during worldwide commercial introduction. The complexity of carbonate pore systems and their distribution at every scale of examination necessitates greater care, calibration and confirmation than for most sandstone objectives.
