LOPEZ ARRIAGA, FERNANDO, Pemex Exploracion y Produccion

Abstract

The oil-fields are located in front of the shoreline of the Tabasco and Campeche states. Are part of the provinces Coatzacoalcos and Marina Campeche, the thickness of sediments is between 10,000 and 12,000 m. The geological history was related to rifling in Middle Jurassic, stage of sedimentation in platform environments during Cretaceous until Lower Miocene, Tectonic activity in Miocene with thrust faults and anticlines related. With salt activity and finally during Pliocene a great subsidence with normal faults creating the Akal horst and Macuspana graben.

The exploration started in 1974 with seismic 2D and drilling well Chac-1, 4934 meters in depth, in Jurassic Oxfordian rocks; the Reforma - Campeche alignment has a Northeast - Southwest orientation. The elements of the petroleum system are Upper Jurassic source rocks, Kimmeridgian, Oxfordian, Cretaceous carbonate rocks and Miocene - Pliocene sandstones rocks are the oil field. The seals are the terrigenous rocks intercalated. The type of traps are combined structural and stratigraphic related to reverse and normal listric faults. The generation of oil began during Lower Miocene. The fold belt in this area has high potential petroleum system.
