Abstract: Petroleum Potential of Bangladesh: A Regional Perspective

EVERETT, JOHN R., RONALD J. STASKOWSKI, and WESTON R. DRIPPS, Earth Satellite Corporation (EarthSat)

Summary

A synthesis of the existing geologic and geophysical data and a detailed interpretation of Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) data reveal additional exploration potential in the currently producing eastern fold belt of Bangladesh and in several other currently nonproducing provinces of this vastly under-explored region. To date, fewer than 100 exploration wells have been drilled in the country. These wells have discovered 19 fields with an average field size of greater than one trillion cubic feet of gas equivalent. Gas is the predominant hydrocarbon, but some condensate and oil are produced.
