Abstract: Depositional Control and Reservoir Development of Badenian Turbidite Systems, Eastern Pannonian Basin, Romania: Impacts on hydrocarbon exploration

The Badenian turbidite systems of Abramut area are some of the oil-producing turbidite deposits in eastern Pannonian basin.

The vertical and lateral distribution of turbidite deposits in this area is an example for facies response to tectonic subsidence, eustasy and paleoenvironmental fluctuations.

To identify types of turbidite systems plays were necessary to integrate core data with well logs and seismic data.

Different geometries, stratal pattern and unconformities were defined using seismic profiles. Also, the recognition of stacking patterns of progradational, retrogradational and agradational parasequence sets on well logs allowed one to identify the sequence stratigraphic successions.

In order to obtain additional prospects and to expand reserves, a geologic model was constructed to explain reservoir origin and development.

Facies model principles were used to locate the position of potential reservoirs within depositional systems and subsystems.

The reservoirs are represented by conglomerate and sandstone deposits generated by mass flow and debris flow and deposited in channels or lobes.

These deposits are considered to be parts of slope fans and prograding wedge in lowstand systems tract conditions.
