Evaluation of the Diagenetic History of the Beekmantown Group (Cambro-Ordovician) of Western New York Using Luminescence Microscopy
KOLKAS, MOSSBAH AND GERALD M. FRIEDMAN
Cathodoluminescent petrography of selected dolomite samples from Beekmantown Group (Cambro-Ordovician) of Niagara County, New York has revealed a timing sequence of diagenesis. This sequence is as follows: 1) deposition of the original sediments; 2) an early-stage of dolomitization; 3) silicification; 4) chemical compaction (stylolitization); 5) an early-stage of dedolomitization; 6) a late-stage of dedolomitization; and 7) precipitation of saddle dolomite (pore-filling dolomite).
The amplitude of the diagenetic modifications controlled the petrophysical parameters (porosity, permeability, recovery efficiency, and fluid saturation).
