High-Tech Trek into the 21st Century

KAMPMANN, CLAUS

The 21st century will be very exciting for the seismic industry as it plays an ever increasing role in the location and management of reservoirs.

The way we do business now, with adversarial business relationships, broad definitions of "core business" in both the oil companies and the services companies and massive technology developments being taken on by individual companies, will become legends of the past. On the other hand, as we look forward today, one of the potential legends of the future is how emerging business trends will help us locate reserves more efficiently and bring them on line more rapidly.

These business trends are examined from the service company viewpoint. First, the role of each key player is outlined: the oil company, the governmental bodies and the service company. Second, the benefits from a more cooperative approach to doing business are outlined using some of the experiences of Geco-Prakla as examples. This more cooperative environment is also changing the model under which technology is being developed and deployed, as illustrated by additional Geco-Prakla experiences.
