Abstract: Albania: Thrust and Backthrust Systems of External Albanides: Examples

Zamir Bega, Vlashi Janopulli

External Albanides have proved as an oil/gas province in a certain limited area. Better understanding of thrusting and backthrusting systems and how both systems work, could improve objectives for exploration beyond actual discoveries.

Backthrusting is not seen any more typical for Cenozoic sediments, where buried front of thrust faulted belts are very active. Mesozoic rocks, that are dominated by westward thrust propagation are also affected by backthrusting, thus leaving more space for other units accommodation.

New concepts postulated are based on Deep Holes, Seismic Data, Outcrops and Spot Imagery.

Among onshore examples, some of them cross existing fields.
