Abstract: Ongoing Dynamics of a Digital Mapping Approach

Frank Kuri

This project is a six-year case history of the evolution of mapping, beginning with drawing maps at the drafting table and progressing to advanced digital mapping. The early identification of obstacles in this dynamic process are essential to success. Effective digital data management, reduced turn-around time, and improved geological accuracy were the project goals.

Hardware and software employed early in the program became interim tools only. The learning curve was too steep, costs remained high, and data integrity suffered. Final implementation frees the geologist from the confines of the system and allows geological interpretation in a user friendly environment.
