Abstract: Field Development with 3-D Seismic: An Historical Example
Patrick J. Hooyman
In 1981, a 3-D seismic survey was acquired, processed and interpreted across Medicine Lake Field in the Williston basin. This was one of the first field-specific 3-D surveys carried out for development and was the subject of
a case history presented to various annual professional society meetings. In those presentations, numerous predictions were made of untested porosity in the Mission Canyon as well as a new structural interpretation for the producing horizons.
In the subsequent decade, many of these predictions have been tested. This paper examines the success of this 3-D survey in aiding development in the last 12 years and attempts to analyze the true value of this 3-D survey in the development of the Medicine Lake Field.
