Abstract: Re-Use of Certain Oil Exploration and Production Waste as Supplemental Fuel in the Manufacture of Cement

H. W. Frago, Ronald D. Powell

Using waste material from oil exploration and production in cement manufacture minimizes waste and reduces long-term liability. The materials have a minimum of 5,000 BTU per pound and can function as a replacement for coal.

Cement manufacturing factors include quarry operations,
milling and mixing of limestone slurry, design and operation of kiln tube, chemistry behind formation of cement crystals, finished product and testing.

Considerations in this supplemental fuels program include
regulatory requirements for boilers and industrial furnaces, laboratory testing requirements for raw materials and finished products, computerized control equipment, record keeping, design of storage and processing facilities, wet milling and feed system, dry milling and feed system, acceptance criteria for candidate waste streams, identifying exploration and production fuel candidates, and costs for each program.

Transportation considerations include both truck and rail accessibility.
