ABSTRACT: Brent Revisited

The giant Brent field was discovered in 1971 in a water depth of 140 m. For development planning, a reservoir geological model was required at an early stage in order to decide on the number of platforms and wells required. Based on wireline logs from the discovery well and logs and cores from the first appraisal well, a model was proposed which led to the ordering of 4 platforms with a total number of 130 drilling slots. Development drilling has now been completed, and the wealth of wireline log, core, and pressure data has enabled the construction of a detailed reservoir geological model. When the original model is compared with the present one, the essentials of reservoir architecture had been predicted on the basis of the very limited data from the first two wells.
