ABSTRACT: Biostratigraphy and Palaegeography of Lower Cretaceous Nannofossils from Romania

Lower Cretaceous nannofossils stratigraphy has been investigated from areas from Romania: some land sections from Eastern and Southern Carpathians, as well drillings from Dobrogea (Eastern part of Moesian platform), ranging from Tithonian to the lower Aptian.

The abundance and great diversity of nannoflora assemblages allow the development of a revised nannofossil zonation scheme for the above mentioned period.

The studied sections have been also investigated from ammonites, calpionellids and foraminifera point of view.

In this way, the nannofossils zones are correlated with the microfossils and macrofossils zones.

From the Tithonian-middle Valanginian the nannoflora is of Tethyan provenance. In the middle-upper Valanginian, a Boreal influence on the nannoflora can be stated, influence also observed on ammonites and foraminifera.

The Boreal influence has been pointed out both from Eastern and Southern Carpathians, as well as from Dobrogea.

From the uppermost Valanginian-lower Hauterivian the nannoflora is of again only of Tethyan provenance, while in the middle-upper Hauterivian a new Boreal influence has been observed on the nannoflora and on foraminifera.

The nannoflora characterized the upper Hauterivian, the Barremiam and the lower Aptian is from the Tethyan Realm.
